Do you toss and turn at night?

My husband can't sleep at night and it's getting so draining on both of us, especially him! It effects your life in so many ways. I have some tips that can help IF you are willing to try them :) Train your brain to sleep instead of training it to be alert! If you are tossing and turning in your bed every night or staying up watching TV because you can't sleep, your brain is being trained that your bed is a place to toss and turn and worry or that it needs to be alert and entertained and stimulated with TV every night. Here are a few tips: 1. Avoid napping, because you need to associate sleep with only one location. 2. Avoid active activities in bed. Again, your bed needs to be associated with sleep only. If you feel alert after sexual relations, you could plan that activity earlier in the day or somewhere else in your home. 3. Go to bed only when you’re sleepy. Get up at the same time every day. This trains your internal clock and you will get up at the same time every day. 4. If you start to toss and turn/worry, get out of bed. Do something that makes you sleepy...not watch TV! :)

New Client Testimonial! Love it!

Denise Christiansen did a PsyChi session with me recently and I highly recommend her! She helped me to unblock some long-time emotions from my body and spirit that had been trapped, even things I thought I'd already processed. It is great to feel lighter and free from those negative feelings about traumatic events in my past. Thank you, Denise!

WHAT IS ADDICTION?

Addiction - there is a psychological/physical component; the person is unable to control the aspects of the addiction without help because of the mental or physical conditions involved.

Habit - it is done by choice. The person with the habit can choose to stop, and will subsequently stop successfully if they want to. The psychological/physical component is not an issue as it is with an addiction.

When a person is addicted to something they cannot control and become dependent on it to cope with daily life.

It is DEPENDENCY which often leads to tolerance in that the need increases and the amount of stimulus needed increases to get the same effect.

Addiction used to be thought of as a psycho-active substance that crosses the blood-brain barrier, temporarily altering the chemical balance of the brain. Psychological dependency with things such as gambling, sex, internet, work, exercise, etc. should also be counted as addictions, because they can also lead to a variety of feelings such as guilt and shame, hopelessness and despair, failure and rejection, anxiety and humiliation.

Addiction, often referred to as dependency often leads to tolerance -  needing larger and more regular amounts of stimulus to receive the same effect.
